In the Middle East and East Africa, GIST works with judiciary, security, and financial institutions to strengthen institutional capacity and improve cross-agency collaboration in response to complex transnational challenges. As judicial systems face growing caseloads, cross-border investigations, and evolving criminal threats, effective coordination and information sharing are critical to operational effectiveness.
Our approach
GIST works directly with judiciary and security institutions in Iraq and Somalia to strengthen case management systems, improve coordination across agencies, and support sustained collaboration with international counterparts on complex transnational cases.
Through embedded subject-matter expertise and tailored capacity-building programmes, our teams support institutions to develop practical information-sharing mechanisms, strengthen operational coordination, and improve responses to complex criminal and security challenges. This includes supporting the prevention, detection, and prosecution of financial and transnational crime, as well as enabling more effective coordination during crises and disaster response.
The work includes the delivery of multi-institution training and capacity-building programmes designed to embed new processes and coordination mechanisms across judicial, security, and financial authorities.
